The Practice

Beyond the Lecture, LLC was founded on a simple observation: the distance between a promising idea and sustainable impact is rarely about the idea itself. It's about the conditions—the strategy, the learning infrastructure, the organizational capacity—required to close that gap. That's the problem this practice was built to solve.

Dr. Sarah Axelson brings over 20 years of experience at the intersection of public health, innovation, and scale to every engagement. She has designed and led federally funded accelerator and incubator programs, facilitated national convenings and shared learning collaboratives, and built training and technical assistance systems for organizations managing more than $175 million in public and philanthropic investment. She holds a Doctor of Public Health from the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health, where she also teaches, and has published peer-reviewed research in the American Journal of Public Health, Prevention Science, and more.

Beyond the Lecture works with a small number of clients at a time — by design. Every engagement receives Dr. Axelson's direct involvement from start to finish.
